Technology has moved on. So have we.
Your halogen light was the best we knew how to build at the time, and plenty of them are still going strong. What changed underneath it is the light source. LED light engines replaced halogen bulbs, and that let us put far more light on your book, get the colour of it much closer to daylight, give you control over the brightness and the beam, and cut what it costs to run.
It puts 60% more light on your book.
Your halogen light gives you up to 4,500 lux. Narrow the HD Original onto small print and you get up to 7,200 lux at 50cm, or open it out and it covers a whole newspaper. It is daylight white too, rather than the warm yellow a bulb gives you, so colours come out the way they do by a window.
You set it once, and it stays set.
Your halogen light was built with one brightness and one beam, because that is what a bulb gives you. On the HD Original you turn the brightness to wherever you want it and make the beam as narrow or as wide as you need, and it remembers both overnight.
When this one goes, we can replace it.
A light engine lasts years rather than months, and when it does eventually go we post you a new one and you fit it yourself. That is the difference between it and your bulb, which cannot be got at all any more.

Can I still buy a halogen bulb from you?
No, and we cannot produce any more either. They were phased out in 2021, and we have been sending out the stock we had ever since, but the last one has now gone.
If yours is still working, carry on using it. Ring us when it goes and we will sort the part exchange out then.
My halogen light still works. Why change it now?
When your bulb goes there is nothing we can send you to put in its place, and that is the reason to do it now rather than later. Have a look at the table above for everything else that has changed since.
You get 90 days, so you can stand the two side by side in your own chair and settle it yourself.
Which one should I go for?
Most people go for the HD Original. You shape the beam, you turn the brightness to wherever you want it, and it holds both between one evening and the next.
Go for the HD Pro if you want a remote, or a battery so it runs with no cable. Both of those cost extra on top. You get the same daylight and the same brightness from either light.
Will it help with macular degeneration or cataracts?
Our lights are not medical devices and we would not claim one treats anything. All they do is give you a great deal more light to read by.

Should I choose the floor light or the table light?
The best lamp for reading depends on your chair. A reading standard lamp stands on the floor beside you and brings the light down over your shoulder, which suits an armchair or a sofa with no table next to it. A reading floor lamp like this also frees up the surface you already have.
Where you have a side table at the right height, a table light does the same job from a lower start. You get the same daylight from both, so it comes down to your room.

What happens to my old halogen light?
We collect it from your door at no cost once your new light has settled in, and it comes back here. Every component is refurbished or recycled rather than sent to landfill.
There is nothing for you to pack or post. Ring us once and we will book it.
Is this a genuine part-exchange price?
It is. We only offer that price to people who already own a Serious Light, and it buys you a current model, brand new and boxed, not a second or old stock.
Quote your code at checkout or on the phone and the price comes off there. Delivery out to you is free, and so is collecting your halogen light afterwards.
How long does delivery take?
UK delivery takes five to seven working days by tracked courier, and it is free on every part exchange.
The HD Original arrives fully built, and the HD Pro's arm simply slots into its base. Either way, you plug it in and read the same evening.
