Why these lights feel different
Ever notice how reading by a window feels effortless, but the same page under a lamp becomes a struggle? Ordinary bulbs leave gaps in the light spectrum your eyes depend on. Both of these lights use Daylight Wavelength Technology™ to rebuild the full, balanced spectrum of natural daylight. The Essential projects 8 times more light onto your page than a traditional 60W bulb. The HD Pro, up to 12 times. Words sharpen. Colours separate. For many people, the strain that crept in by evening simply stops. HD Pro reading light in use "I was put off by the price for years. It's worth every penny. I wish I'd bought one years ago." — Mr Ross, Bridlington

Which one is right for me?5 questions
My eyes are fine. Which one should I pick?
The Essential delivers the full daylight spectrum and everything most readers need. That said, most people who try the HD Pro never look back. The extra power and precision control make a noticeable difference, even with good eyesight.
When should I choose the HD Pro?
When you want the most light, the most control, and the longest trial. The Pro is 50% brighter, with a stepless dimmer that remembers your setting, a beam you can shape, and options for cordless or remote. Readers living with AMD, cataracts or glaucoma often tell us it made a significant difference. You get 90 days to see for yourself.
I have AMD, cataracts or glaucoma. Which should I get?
The HD Pro. Readers living with eye conditions consistently tell us the extra power and adjustable beam make a real difference. You can shape the light to exactly where you need it, and the 90-day trial gives your eyes time to adjust. The Essential uses the same technology but the Pro gives you far more to work with.
Do I need the floor light or the table light?
The floor light stands behind your chair and shines over your shoulder. The table light sits beside you on a desk, side table or bedside. Both deliver the same quality of light. Choose whichever fits where you read most.
Is this just for reading?
No. People use them for crosswords, needlework, model-making, artwork, crafts, puzzles, and close work of all kinds. Anything where you need to see detail clearly under good light.
How the light works7 questions
Do both lights use the same technology?
Yes. Both use Daylight Wavelength Technology with a CRI of 98%. The HD Pro delivers more of it, more powerfully, with far more control over how you use it.
Which is brighter?
The HD Pro. Up to 7,200 lux compared to 4,800 on the Essential. For many readers, especially those who need real clarity for small print, that extra power makes the difference.
Do both dim?
Yes. The Essential uses press-and-hold dimming. The Pro has a tactile thumbwheel that is smooth and stepless. You can feel exactly where you are and dial in the brightness your eyes want. It remembers your last setting.
What colour is the light?
Both lights produce 4,000K natural daylight, which is a clean, balanced white. It is not blue, not yellow, and not harsh. The Pro also accepts optional chromatic filters if you prefer a warmer tone.
Does it flicker?
No. Zero flicker at any brightness level. Both lights use constant-current drivers, so the output is completely steady. Many people who are sensitive to flicker from screens or fluorescent tubes notice the difference straight away.
Is the light harsh or glaring?
No. Both lights are fully dimmable, so you set the level your eyes want. The Pro also accepts optional comfort filters that soften the beam further. The light falls on the page, not in your eyes.
How does it compare to an ordinary reading lamp?
The Essential projects 8 times more light onto your page than a traditional 60W bulb. The HD Pro, up to 12 times. Every wavelength is present in both. Ordinary lamps leave gaps in the spectrum, which is often why reading feels harder than it should. The difference is usually obvious within minutes.
Getting started5 questions
Where should I position it?
The floor light goes behind your chair, shining over your shoulder onto the page. The table light sits beside you at arm's reach on a desk, side table or bedside. The flexible arm lets you angle the head precisely where you need it.
How big is it?
The floor lights stand 144-152cm tall and tuck behind a chair or beside a sofa. The table lights are 64-71cm and sit on a desk, side table or bedside. Weight depends on the model: the lightest table light is 2.2kg, the heaviest floor light is 6kg, and the Pro Floor is 4.8kg. Both have a small footprint and the flexible arm means you can position the head exactly where you need it.
Is it easy to set up?
The Essential arrives fully built and ready to use. The HD Pro comes in two parts: the base and the light. You screw them together by hand in seconds. No tools needed.
Can I replace the bulb myself?
Yes. The Essential bulb pulls out and a replacement pushes in. The HD Pro uses a light engine with a quick magnetic release, just as easy to swap. The HD Pro light engine is guaranteed for 5 years and the Essential bulb for 3 years. After that, replacements are available directly from us.
Is it expensive to run?
No. Both lights use between 6 and 7 watts. That is roughly a tenth of what a traditional 60W bulb uses. You could leave it on all evening for pennies.
