Read by real daylight, without a lamp standing in the room.
If small print is getting harder to read in your chair or in bed, it is usually the light, not your eyes. The HD Essential Wall Light mounts on the wall beside you and puts the full daylight spectrum on your page, with nothing standing on the floor and nothing on the table. We are retiring it for the 2027 range, so the last of them are half price at £124.99 instead of £249.99, with 30 days to try it at home.

Wall mounted reading light, half price
What changes at the first switch-on.
Ordinary light is missing part of the spectrum, and older eyes need more light than it gives. The Wall Light delivers the full spectrum, straight onto your page.
You can read small print again.
The medicine bottle, the footnotes and your bank statement are readable again. 4,800 lux at reading distance, across both pages of your open book.
You can read just as well at night.
The bulb rebuilds the full daylight spectrum at 98% colour accuracy, so reading at ten at night is no harder than at ten in the morning.
You can set it once, and it stays set.
Press and hold to dim, release at the level you want. The arm holds where you bend it, guaranteed for life against drooping.
The Serious Readers story
I built the first HD Light for my mum.
When my mum began losing her sight to macular degeneration, she asked me to find her a better reading lamp. I bought thirty-seven lamps, spread them across my dining table and dismantled every one. Some produced glare, some washed the colour out, and some lit the ceiling instead of her book.
So I built her the first High Definition home reading light, and she carried on reading, independent, in her own chair. Every light we make descends from hers. You do not build a cheap lamp for your mum; you build the best one you can, and then you spend forty years making it better.
This is the difference on your page.
Ordinary light looks white, but part of the spectrum is missing, and your eyes work to fill the gaps. A brighter bulb does not fill them. Daylight Wavelength Technology™ rebuilds the full spectrum at 98% colour accuracy, so black print on white paper is crisp again.

Customers living with AMD and cataracts tell us print looks sharper and higher in contrast under one. The home trial lets you check that against your own eyes.
Try the Wall Light for 30 daysBuilt to be the best, not the cheapest.
We build lights to be repaired and kept for decades, rather than replaced.
In 2025/26 our workshop carried out 724 repairs and 626 LED conversions, 1,350 in a single year, and 399 of those repairs were free of charge. The oldest light we upgraded this year was first ordered in September 2005.
A five-year warranty on the light, and a three-year warranty on its replaceable bulb.
A lifetime warranty on the Stayput arm: a carbon-steel spring in a copper wrap with brass ends, so it holds where you bend it, for good.
Hand-built in Great Britain. We have repaired our own lights for forty years.

Replaceable 6W LED bulb with a 3-year warranty, under a 5-year warranty on the light and a lifetime warranty on the arm. The 2.8m cable runs to a transformer plug in an ordinary socket.
How it fixes to your wall.
Everything you need comes in the box: the bracket, a fitting template and the fixings. There is no wiring, so there is no electrician.

Mark the template, fix the bracket, hang the light.
Hold the paper template where you want your light, put the screws in through the bracket, and the light hangs on. It is a screwdriver job.
Plug it into an ordinary socket.
The transformer plug comes with it, and the 2.8m cable reaches a socket across the room. There is nothing to wire in.
Bend the arm to your book.
The head sits 56cm out from the bracket on a flexible arm that stays exactly where you bend it, guaranteed for life against drooping.

A few straight answers.
What makes this different from an ordinary wall light?
An ordinary wall lamp is decoration: it lights the wall it hangs on. This one is a reading light. Daylight Wavelength Technology™ rebuilds the full spectrum at 98% colour accuracy, which brightness alone cannot do.
The arm brings that beam over your book. The home trial lets you judge it from your own chair.
Is a wall mounted light right for me?
It is the right choice if you read in one fixed place, a favourite armchair or your side of the bed, and you want the floor and the table kept clear.
If you move between chairs, or you want one light to serve different corners of the room, one of our freestanding floor lights will fit you better. If you are weighing it up, call free on 0800 032 9364 and an adviser will go through it with you.
How bright is it, in numbers?
Measured at 50cm, it puts 4,800 lux on your book, in a fixed beam 12 inches across, which covers both pages of an open book. Colour accuracy is 98% CRI.
All of it is dimmable from the rocker switch: press and hold, and release when the brightness is where your eyes want it.
Will it work beside my bed?
That is where many of them go. The beam lands on your book, not across the bed, so the rest of the room stays dark.
It dims and switches off at the rocker under the head, without you getting out of bed.
Will it help with macular degeneration or cataracts?
Our lights are not medical devices. What they do is put far more usable light on your book.
Customers living with AMD, cataracts and age-related vision change tell us print looks sharper and higher in contrast under one. The home trial lets you find out with your own eyes.
No web page can prove any of this properly, which is exactly why the trial exists. Read under one beside your own chair for 30 days, and if it is not for you, we collect it from your door and refund you.

How does it fix to the wall, and do I need an electrician?
You do not need an electrician. The bracket, a fitting template and the fixings all come in the box: mark the template, fix the bracket, hang the light. At 0.9kg it is no heavier than a picture frame.
It runs off a transformer plug in an ordinary socket and cannot be hard wired.
What bulb does it take, and what does it cost to run?
A replaceable 6W LED bulb, carrying its own three-year warranty inside the light's five-year warranty.
Six watts costs pennies a week to run, and the bulb runs cool enough to sit beside you all evening.
Why is it half price?
We are stopping the Wall Light to make room for the 2027 range, and these are the last of them. Nothing is wrong with it: it is a current light, brand new and boxed.
The price is set low from the start and held there until they run out.
What if it is not right when it arrives?
You have 30 days to read under it at home. If it is not right, one call arranges collection from your door and a full refund.
The same number reaches us if anything goes wrong later. We have repaired our own lights for forty years.
There are 121 of these left.
The reason to try one is the difference it makes to your reading. The price is what makes trying one easy: half price at £124.99, no code needed. When these have gone, that is the end of it.
