Final Stock Clearance 2026 · Code SEPT69
Where else in your house could you do with better light?
You already know what one of our lights does where you sit with it. Until 31st October I have put clearance prices across the 2026 collection while we get ready for winter. Several models will still be here next year, but these prices will not, so if another room could do with better light, now is the time to sort it.

Which room could do with better light?
The second one is usually the easy decision, because the argument has already been settled in the room you bought the first for. What owners write to tell us is that it changes where they can read and what they can get done there. These are the three changes they name most.

Small print is readable in more than one chair.
The medicine bottle, the footnotes, your bank statement, all readable at arm's length in whichever room you are sitting in. The beam is set to land on your page rather than across the room.

You read as long in November as you do in June.
An evening in November asks no more of your eyes than a bright morning in June, because what lands on your page is the same at both. Nine at night is as good a time to start a chapter as nine in the morning.

You can pick your light up and carry it.
Two of the lights here run for 4.5 hours on one charge, so you read in bed, work at the kitchen table or take one out to the garden without hunting for a socket first.
The difference the right light makes.
Your eyes can tell apart something like ten million shades, and that is how you get colour, depth, contrast and detail. What you actually see of it depends on the light falling on the page. Most artificial light gives you only part of the spectrum, heavy on blue and short of red, so print flattens and colours drain. Daylight has no gaps in it, which is why reading by a window on a clear morning is easy, and Daylight Wavelength Technology™ rebuilds that spectrum at 98% accuracy.

Customers living with AMD and cataracts tell us print looks sharper and higher in contrast under one. The home trial lets you check that against your own eyes.
See the clearance pricesThe Serious Readers story
I built the first HD Light for my mum.
By 1988 our lights were already on production lines and in laboratories, and then my mum began losing her sight to macular degeneration. I built her the first High Definition home reading light so she could carry on reading, and stay independent, in her own chair.
Every light on this page descends from hers. You do not build a cheap lamp for your mum; you build the best one you can, and then you spend forty years making it better. That is still the rule for every reading light we make.
Built to be the best, not the cheapest.
We aim to build the best reading lights you can buy rather than the cheapest: a high-grade, reliable tool for people who need or want the best light they can have. Nothing is priced for show.
Our lights have been chosen for professional settings, from the British Museum to operating theatres and the Heathrow control tower, and the philatelists at Stanley Gibbons grade their stamps under them. A warranty is only worth the company standing behind it, and ours has been building and repairing these lights for forty years.
A five-year warranty on the HD Essential, with a replaceable LED bulb inside it. The HD Mini and the ROAM carry one year.
A lifetime warranty on the HD Essential's arm. It holds where you put it, for good.
The HD Essential is hand-built in Great Britain and arrives fully assembled. When something goes wrong, we repair it or we replace it.

What opticians tell their patients.
In the UK we work with 472 optical practices, and more than 500 independent opticians recommend a Serious Light to their patients. These five say why.
What owners tell us.
From more than 10,000 five-star reviews.
My aim is to have one of your lights in every room in the house where reading of any sort might possibly take place.Mrs Parsons, Worcestershire
“I thought my light was a luxury. After receiving it I realised I was wrong, it's a necessity.”
Mrs Gallagher, Isle of Arran
“It makes my other lights look yellow and dimmer. How nice to be able to read in such marvellous light.”
Mr McDowall, Surrey
“Doing puzzles on a winter's afternoon will be a pleasure.”
Mr J, Norfolk
Lighting is vital, and your High Definition Light is by far the best light I have ever used in my 40 years of engraving. I use it from the moment I sit down at my engraving area.Lesley Pyke, glass engraver, who has worked for heads of state and royalty
Before you order.
A few straight answers, starting with the one we are asked most.
Which of the three should I choose?
Choose the HD Essential if the light will stay in one place, beside the chair you read in. It is the one most people take, it stands on the floor or on a table, and it carries the five-year warranty with a lifetime warranty on the arm.
Choose the HD Mini if you want a light you can move about that still dims all the way down, for the bedside or a desk. Choose the ROAM if the point is carrying it, since at 500g it goes out to the garden or away for a weekend and runs for 4.5 hours on its own battery.
Should the HD Essential be the floor light or the table light?
It depends on the chair. The floor light stands beside you and brings the beam down over your shoulder, which suits an armchair or a sofa with nothing next to it, and it leaves the surface you already have free.
Where there is a side table at about elbow height, the table light does the same job from a lower start. Both carry the same daylight, so choose by where you sit. The HD Mini and the ROAM are table lights, and you can pick either of those up and move it.
Why are the prices lower right now?
This is the Final Stock Clearance for 2026, so we are clearing the year's collection as we get ready for winter. These are current lights, brand new and boxed, rather than seconds or old stock, and they carry the same warranty as they would at full price.
Black is selling quickest, and when the stock for a finish is gone it is gone, whatever the date says.
Will it help with macular degeneration or cataracts?
Our lights are not medical devices, and we would not claim otherwise. What they do is put far more usable light on your page, at a colour accuracy of 98%.
Beyond that we would rather let your own eyes settle it than tell you what to expect, which is what the home trial is for. Our advisers talk to people living with AMD and cataracts every day, so if you want to know what others have found, ring them and ask.
How long does delivery take, and what if I send it back?
UK delivery takes five to seven working days by tracked courier, and it is free on every order of £74.99 and above. The HD Essential arrives fully built, so you plug it in and read the same evening.
Returns are free on all three. If the HD Essential is not for you, one phone call arranges collection from any UK mainland address. For the HD Mini and the ROAM, ring the same number and we will sort out getting it back to us at our cost.
The only real test is your own chair, which is why the trial exists. Read under one for 30 days, and if it is not for you, returns are free and we refund you in full.

The reason to put another light in is the difference it makes to the room you sit in. The price is what makes now the time: up to half price with code SEPT69, at checkout or by phone. Several models will still be here next year, but these prices will not, and they end earlier if our stock runs out.
