It's World Book Day - and we're offering you the chance to win a Levo G2 Deluxe Book Stand worth £189.
Thursday 01 March 2018In what has fast become a national institution, today is the day when multiple Horrid Henry's are to be spotted on urban streets, and the occasional James may even be spied hauling his giant peach outside your front door.
Yes, March 1st is the UK's World Book Day, and children throughout the land will be dressing as their favourite fictional character and engaging in a variety of games at school centred on their favourite stories. In addition, each child aged 8-11 will be given a book token which will allow them to pick one of ten brand new FREE books. All of this in order to fire their imagination and encourage a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
Each of the ten free books has been created specifically for World Book day. To see the titles on offer, click here. Alternatively, the book token may be put towards the cost of any other book, in which case it has the value of £1.
Last year, a poll of 9,000 children between the age of 8-11 which was conducted by the National Literacy Trust revealed that 25% of them had used their book token to buy their first book, and the Trust puts this forward as evidence that World Book Day is achieving its ambitions. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the event. Elsewhere in the world, April 23rd marks the event - but in the UK we have the small matter of a certain national saint's day. In addition, 23rd April can sometimes fall in the Easter school break.
