Feeling Bookish? Scotland has the answer….
Monday 06 August 2018Running from 11-27 August, this year’s Edinburgh Book Festival promises to be a cracker. From Maria Alyokhina’s remarkable account of two years in a soviet prison, to a new performance of Man Booker prize-winner JM Coetzee’s Life and Times of Michael K, there is something to suit all literary tastes.
2018’s theme is freedom in a world where democracy and capitalism, long the staples of western society, are being brought into question. 52 authors from 25 countries have been commissioned to write essays exploring the theme, and all aspects of freedom in the arts will be considered in a diverse programme of talks, workshops and readings taking place in Charlotte Square Gardens and in George Street.
