Read by daylight, anywhere in your house.
If you can read your book by the window in the morning, but it is hard work under a lamp at night, that is usually the light, not your eyes. The HD ROAM puts real daylight on your page, weighs 500g, and runs for 4.5 hours on one charge. You have 30 days at home, and returns are free.

What changes when you turn on the HD ROAM.
When small print gets harder in the evenings, most people put it down to their eyes. After forty years we can tell you it is usually the light: older eyes need more light, and an ordinary bulb does not give it well. Three things change at the first switch-on.

You can read small print in the evening again.
The medicine bottle, the footnotes and your crossword clues are readable again. The proof is the beam: 3,700 lux of daylight on your page.

You can read in whichever chair you choose.
At 500g you can pick the HD ROAM up with one hand and take it from your armchair to the kitchen table to your bedside. One charge lasts 4.5 hours, the whole evening.

You can dim it to suit your eyes.
One button on the base steps through five brightness settings, from full daylight down to a lower level for late reading, and the flexible neck stays exactly where you bend it.
The Serious Readers story
I built the first HD Light for my mum.
When my mum began losing her sight to macular degeneration, she asked me to find her a better reading lamp. I bought thirty-seven lamps, spread them across my dining table and dismantled every one. Some produced glare, some washed the colour out, and some lit the ceiling instead of her book.
So I built her the first High Definition home reading light, and she carried on reading, independent, in her own chair. Every light we design descends from hers.
This is the difference on your page.
An ordinary bulb only looks white: its spectrum has gaps, and your eyes work harder to fill them in, which is one reason reading tires them. Daylight has a continuous spectrum, and Daylight Wavelength Technology™ rebuilds it, so the contrast between black print and white paper comes back.

Customers living with AMD and cataracts tell us print looks sharper and higher in contrast under one. The home trial lets you check that against your own eyes.

ROAM specifications
The whole light weighs 500g, stands on a base 9cm square, and adjusts between 10.75 and 18.75 inches tall, so it sits on a side table without taking it over, and moves rooms in one hand.
3,700 lux of daylight lands on your page, stepped through five brightness settings from one button on the base. The colour of the light is 5,500K, the colour of natural daylight, so black print stays black and paper stays white rather than turning yellow under it.
One charge runs 4.5 hours, a full recharge takes five, and the light keeps working while it charges from the USB-C lead and UK plug in the box. It draws 6.9 watts, which costs pennies a week, and the LED is rated for 40,000 hours.
Take the daylight with you.
Do the crossword at the kitchen table.
You set the HD ROAM down beside your coffee, and the print is as clear as it is by the window on a bright morning.
Read the afternoon in your armchair.
You carry it over in one hand, bend the neck to your book, and keep reading long after the light outside has gone.
Finish the chapter in bed.
You step the brightness down, read as long as you like, and switch off without getting up.

A few straight answers.
What makes this different from an ordinary table lamp?
An ordinary lamp is built to light a room, and its bulb only looks white: the spectrum has gaps your eyes work to fill in. Daylight Wavelength Technology™ rebuilds the full daylight spectrum, and the HD ROAM runs it on its own battery, so the daylight goes to whichever chair you take it to.
Is 4.5 hours of battery enough?
For most evenings it is more than enough, and a full recharge takes five hours.
If it does run low mid-chapter, plug in the USB-C lead and carry on reading while it charges. And if you would rather never think about the battery, it works plugged in, like any table lamp.
Is it a lot to pay for a small lamp?
It is more than a battery lamp from a catalogue costs, and it does a different job. A cheap LED is built on a blue chip that leaves gaps across the spectrum, so it looks bright while the print stays hard work.
The HD ROAM rebuilds the full daylight spectrum. You have 30 days to test the difference on your own book, and if you cannot see it, returns are free.
Is the HD ROAM right for me, or should I look at a floor light?
The HD ROAM is the right choice if you read in more than one place and want to carry your light with you.
If you read in one fixed armchair every evening, one of our freestanding floor lights puts more light on your page from a bigger beam, with a 5-year warranty and up to 90 days at home. If you are weighing it up, call free on 0800 032 9364 and an adviser will go through it with you.
Will it help with macular degeneration or cataracts?
Our lights are not medical devices. What they do is put far more usable light on your book.
Customers living with AMD, cataracts and age-related vision change tell us print looks sharper and higher in contrast under one. The home trial lets you find out with your own eyes.
Why is it £25 off?
We are holding more HD ROAM stock than we should be, so the price is down until stock is back in line. That is the whole story.
Nothing is wrong with it: it is a current light, brand new and boxed, and the trial and the warranty are exactly the same at the lower price.
No web page can prove any of this properly, which is exactly why the trial exists. Read under one for 30 days, and if it is not for you, send it back free for a full refund.

How do I charge it, and what does it cost to run?
The USB-C lead and UK plug come in the box. A full charge takes five hours, and you can keep reading while it charges.
It draws 6.9 watts, which costs pennies a week to run.
What if it is not right when it arrives?
You have 30 days to read under it at home. If it is not right, returns are free and you get a full refund.
